Metropolitan Community Church of Las Vegas
"We are a Beacon of Good News through Grace, Service, and Love for All!"
What type of people worship at MCC?
Our congregation can be described in one word: diverse. You will see all of Godís human creation on Sunday morning. We are an open and affirming congregation with progressive Christian beliefs and radical inclusivity. We truly believe that Godís love is for all people. MCC Las Vegas is a church for all people, regardless of age, race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation or religious background. Our facility is designed so those who are differently-abled can join in worship as well.
What time does worship start, how long is the service, and what is it like?
The experience of worship at Metropolitan Community Church Las Vegas is as unique as the community that worships with us. MCC is alive in worship and in witness, bringing voice to the inclusive love of God with varied musical styles and diverse liturgical and seasonal experiences. We actually offer two different opportunities to worship God each and every Sunday morning. Special holidays, such as Easter, Pride, Anniversary Sunday and Christmas, we'll combine the two services to have a gathering as a big family!
Our 9:00 AM Service runs approximately an hour. This service is best described as liturgical. We sing hymns as well as praise choruses. We have responsive readings, a sermon, and celebrate Communion weekly. When you leave, you will feel as if you have been in a house of prayer, coming away refreshed and ready for the week. The clergy wear simple vestments. While we do not have our Sunday School program during this service, children are always welcome.
At our 11:00 AM NewSong Worship, we gather for approximately 80 minutes to sing, pray and be blessed with a relevant message for our lives today. We celebrate Communion every week. Most of the music is contemporary Christian and Gospel music, mixed with some upbeat secular music as well, and the worship band and singers, are upbeat and encourages participation.
During this service, we have Sunday School, as an opportunity for our children, ages 4 years old - 17 years old, to have a place of their own for a time of Christian teaching. Currently the classes are in the church office, (Suite 302). Please bring your child(ren) to the class before service begins, so that they can meet the other kids and the teachers. We always have two teachers with the children at all times who have passed background checks and are trained in the curriculum.
For our younger children, they are definitely welcome at all of our services. If you would like to bring them some books or toys to quietly play with during service, that is just fine. We have a crying room located in the back of the sanctuary, if you would like, at any time, to just relax with your child outside of the sanctuary. We also have changing table facilities in both restrooms at the back of the sanctuary.
What should I wear?
Thereís no formal dress code at MCC Las Vegas, and the attire on Sunday morning is just as varied as our worship styles. Most people dress casually. You are welcome to dress up, but it is not an expectation. Transgender and gender queer folks are welcome and encouraged to dress according to their gender identity and expression. Our church is a safe space to explore your gender expression. Itís completely up to you to dress to your level of comfort. Most importantly, though, we look forward to seeing you, not what youíre wearing.
